Tom Uren Elder Statesman
Location: His home in East Balmain
Born in Balmain, he was a minister in the Whitlam and Hawke governments. He opposed the Vietnam War, conscription and nuclear testing and has maintained a keen interest in urban affairs, the environment and veterans’ affairs with particular reference to his time as a POW on the Burma-Siam Railway. He is author of several books and is currently working on a diary of the recent federal election.
He holds a copy of Ho Chi Min’s biography:
“Many people don’t realise it, but Ho Chi Min was Asia’s equivalent of Nelson Mandela.”
